The Friel Sisters are traditional musicians with family roots firmly in the Donegal Gaeltacht, though they were themselves born and brought up in Glasgow. Their first album was recorded in their mother Sheila’s Coyle family home in Doire na Máinsear in Donegal and launched in Gaoith Dobhair (Gweedore) in December 2013.
Twins Sheila and Anna both play flute, and Sheila plays uillean pipes. Younger sister Clare plays the fiddle. All three contribute to the vocals, and many of their tunes and songs come from the family repertoire.
The Friel Sisters have performed at Celtic Connections, the Danish Tønder Festival, Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann, Catskill’s Irish Arts Week in New York, the Frankie Kennedy Winter School, Sligo Live, Celtic Fusion and at many other festivals across Europe, America and Asia.
