Sharon Littley was born and brought up in the Bridgend area of South Wales. It was by chance that she first came to wood carving, but from her early interest as a self-taught hobby carver, she became Welsh Regional Leader of the British Woodcarving Association. Her growing reputation led to her running a number of Adult Education classes for a number of different local authorities, and she set up her own business called Heartwood . As Sharon says, “Heartwood epitomised everything I did – the medium I worked in (wood) and the fact that I put my heart and soul into everything I do; heartwood is also the centre of the tree = as it is the centre of my life.”
In 2002 she was the co-author of a book, Celtic Carved Lovespoons – 30 patterns, published by the Guild of Master Craftsmen, and has also written articles for woodcarving magazines in Britain and the USA. She has visited the USA, Japan, Ireland, Holland, Belgium and France to promote Wales and the custom of Lovespoon carving.
She has since become fully professional, organizing wood carving classes and accepting commissions for all sorts of pieces – but Lovespoons loom large in her work.
Sharon will be running two workshops, each of four hours, in which you’ll have the opportunity to finish a Lovespoon to your own design. All equipment is provided, and the cost is £30 for either of the workshops which will be held on Saturday 18 July and Sunday 19 July.
